Comments:

Hi Hoodo, Thank you for your comments on my recent blog. From your comments, I suspect we are closer politically than you might think. Both of us, it seems, are repelled by the hacks, thieves, and thugs we find in political circles in both parties. Living in the San Diego area, I am particularly cognizant of the corruption in political circles. In recent days, we have had two city councilmen removed from office, after having been convicted of accepting bribes for political favors. Just a few months before that, the mayor was coerced to resign because of alleged malfeasance in office. Then, just two days ago, Rep. "Duke" Cunningham resigned his office after admitting that he had accepted $2.4 million in bribes from defense contractors for favors given. Although I am not poor myself, I have always had a special empathy for those who for one reason or another suffer from want. In today's world, that makes me lean a little more to the left in my political philosophy. But my main interest is in honest government, and that seems to be an increasingly rare commodity. My wife is a registered Republican, but recent events are causing even she to second-guess her party. Perhaps we will both register as independents for the next election. Are there any truly honest people out there willing to run for office?

Hi Hoodo, Thank you for your thoughtful comments regarding my post. As to the reason for foreign cars being superior to American ones, I wish I could find one. Perhaps it is because there many reasons why they are superior in quality and durability. As I said, we own a 2003 Suburu, and I have driven it for almost three years now without a problem. The car was assembled in Indiana, presumably by American workers. Perhaps the difference is Japanese automotive engineering. Another reason for GM not being able to compete successfully with the Japanese and the Germans might be that GM carries a heavy load in pension benefits and medical insurance costs. In any event, as you suggest, they had better do something and soon, or matters will just get worse.

Hoodo, Thanks for the comments on my blog. I too have a cycling fetish. I love it but hate this time of year due to the lack of so called Global Warming. I took it up shortly after my first marathon and it has been a great compliment. Lots of open road out here in the west to ride. Congrats on your Triathlon experience. That is on my list of things to do. The thought of it is as intimidating as running that first marathon. Any pointers are welcome. I'll be checking back in.

Hoodo
I read your blog on Fair tax. You are right about it being fair in one aspect, but the government wants to charge 10% which is way to high. They could charge 1% and have more than enough for their waste. Check out my blog 93 yrs. of government deceit
